Summer of Joy by Ann Gabhart

This is a great story and it was interesting to try to figure out the places in Kentucky since I am familiar with the state.  I enjoyed the time setting of the book and trying to figure out what was going to happen next with the characters and the families involved.  I wish I had read the other books in the series, but this one is still enjoyable on its own.  I would recommend this book that takes you back in time to the 60's.  I was given this book free to review.

Through the Deep Waters by Kim Vogel Swayer

Dinah works to rise up from her up bringing and finds it hard to accept that life can be completely different.  Her first goal of becoming a Harvey Girl  doesn't work like she planned and she has to go to a different goal that doesn't leave her feeling worthy of a better life.  This book shows how we can still rise above the choices that we make and still have the life that God has planned for us. A Heart's Rebellion by Ruth Axtell

I enjoyed reading this book and first of all learning about some of the ways of life during this time period.  Jessamine doesn't want to follow traditions and goes against what she knows is true and right.  I liked seeing how she worked through things to really follow her heart and sort out what she really wanted.  She also has to work through proving why she chooses who she wants and not make it seem like she is choosing for the wrong reasons.  This comes from not being true in the first place. I received this book free to review.

Four Cups by Chris Hodges

This straight forward book gives insight to finding your spiritual fulfillment with God's promises.  It tells of four key promises that God wants you to use in his plans for you.  This book will help you move forward and gives a biblical understanding to these promises.  This book uses history and tradition to help you understand the life God has in store for you. I am not sure how I will use the insight from this book to help me in my life's journey, but it gives me something to think about.  This book allows you to see what is there to guide you in your journey.  It can help when you need some further insight and guidance in moving forward. A Stillness of Chimes by Meg Mosley

When Laura returns home, she doesn't realize just how much her life will change.  She returns to find thing very different than she left them.  Mysteries surround the father she lost several years ago and it is up to her and longtime friend Sean to set the mysteries and rumors to rest.  Meg Mosley does another great job of writing to make you want to continue to read more.  She weaves the stories together and leaves you guessing how it will turn out and why. Shadow of Jezebel by Mesu Andrews

This story brings to life a character from the Bible that many don't know or think about.  It gives insight to the characters and lets you relate to them and how their lives were during the biblical times.  The research put in to this book lets you know that the author really cares about getting things right.  I received a copy of this book to review.

The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn by Lori Benton

Another great book I have had the pleasure of getting to read is this one by Lori Benton. I enjoyed her previous book and was joyful to learn she had another release.  I enjoy historical fiction the best and this one was no exception.  Tamsen decides to set out on her own to escape a life her stepfather has set for her.  To do this she solicits a guide to help to escape to her new life.  Her move is not easy and she has to endure hardships along the way.  I enjoyed seeing how she was able to persevere to achieve her goals and was able to face challenges that faced her along the way. All things Hidden by Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse

Since I am currently studying about the depression for school, I enjoy the chance to learn about history as told through the eyes of others.  In reading historical fiction, I am given the chance to learn about some of the lesser parts of historical events.  This book takes place during the 1930's and tells of a journey of hundreds of settlers to Alaska Territory.  One of the new settlers is a doctor who gets a chance to start over after losing a patient.   Another of the characters has lived in the settlement her entire life and has trouble adjusting to the new additions to her town.  The story is filled with twists and turns and is sure to leave you wanting for more.  Kudos to the authors and hope for another collaboration. I received this book for free to review for Bethany House.

Where Courage Calls by Janette Oke and Laurel Oke Logan

I enjoyed reading this story of someone stepping out of their comfort zone and persevering to do what they feel is right.  Beth feels called to follow in the footsteps of her namesake to help teach those who might not have a chance to rise up above their circumstances.  Even though it means having to exist in conditions that are nowhere near what she is used to, she is determined to make the best of it.  I really admired her to trying to make sure that everyone had a chance and trying to make the best use of her talents and those who were around her.  I would recommend reading this book as it shows great courage and it also gave some historical insight to what it was like in that part of Canada during that time period.
