Sisterchicks in Gondolas by Robin Jones Gunn

Jenna and Sue are best friends and sisters-in-law.  Jenna  has the opportunity for a week in Venice and of course invites Sue to go with her.  They are responsible for cooking for a group that is staying at the same place they are and that leads to some interesting happenings.  While there they get to explore the city and see things they would never get to see otherwise.  A great continuation to a great series. A Kingsbury Collection: Three Novels in One: Where Yesterday Lives, When Joy Came to Stay, On Every Side by Karen Kingsbury

I glad to get this book just in time for a day off so I could get it all read.  Karen Kingsbury is a great author and I really enjoy reading her books.  This one was extra great in that the series was all together and I didn't have to wait for the next book. Where Yesterday Lives tells the story of Ellen and her return to her childhood home.  She returns there uncertain of the way her life is going and the differences in how things are since she left.   When Joy Comes to Stay tells the story of  husband and wife,  Maggie and Ben, and  the impact that Amanda makes on their life.  Maggie has some issues and it takes Ben some doing to understand them and how to best handle them and how their trust in God helps to make things work out for the best. On Every Side   tells the story of Faith and standing up for what she believes in. In standing up for what she believes in she finds herself on the opposite side of Jordan who she never thought s...

Christmas in Apple Ridge by Cindy Woodsmall

I really anticipated getting this book and was not disappointed.  It contains three great stories that deal with looking at things with a different perspective and not letting previous disappointments continue to affect the decisions of the rest of your life.  I have read several books by this author and can't wait to read more of her Amish fiction. The Sound of Sleigh Bells tells the story of Beth and Jonah and how their communications draw them closer together even though they both have a different vision of who they are writing to. The Chrismas Singing Mattie is a talented baker and after her shop burns down she returns to her parents home.  While there she had to encounter Gideon who she was previously engaged to and work on being civil to. Gideon still cares for Mattie and had kept a secret from her that caused them to break up. This story tells how they work on their differences and forgiveness. The Dawn of Christmas  This was a new story to add to ...

A Wreath of Snow by Liz Curtis Higgs

A great read.  I was able to finish this book in about an hour and was read to see what would happen.  Meg is not on the greatest terms with her family and she leaves to go back to her house on Christmas Eve, but the train gets stuck in snow and she has to go back home.  She is accompanied home by someone that she met long ago and wonders how her family will treat him.  Good read about forgiveness and bitterness. A Season for Tending by Cindy Woodsmall

I have really enjoyed reading her books and when I found out when this one would be available, I made sure to be able to read it.  A Season for Tending starts the story of Rhoda, Samuel, and Jacob.  Rhoda lives in an Amish community and is very good at growing things, so good that she has raised suspicion.  She also has a gift of sensing when things are wrong and that has made her a target of dislike. Samuel and his family work an apple orchard and are also Amish.  They are looking for new uses for their cider apples and through a set of circumstances team up with Rhoda to help sell their product. Twice a Bride By Mona Hodgson

I had read the other three books in the Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek and was eagerly awaiting the last book.  This book did not disappoint.  It continues with what is happening with the lives in the Sinclair sisters including a long awaited,  unexpected visit from their father.  It also continues the story of Willow, the sister-in-law to one of the Sinclair sisters and Hattie their former landlady at the boarding house.  Both are widows and not expecting a second chance at love, but....   I was disappointed for the series to come to an end and will be eagerly looking for the new series. Be Still My Soul by Joanne Bischof

This book tells the story of the first year of marriage of Gabe and Lonnie.   She does not really have good male role models and her father forces her to marry Gabe and she complies.  Soon after they marry they leave his family and travel toward a town where he thinks there are jobs.  They do not make it there, but instead begin living with a couple Jebediah and Elise who teach Gabe how to really treat Lonnie.  The book tells of their struggles as they learn to be a couple. http://www.joannebischof.com/   more from the author can be found here. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

It took me a bit to finish this book, but it was very enlightening.  It chronicles the story of Louis Zamperini.  It tells of his life before WW2 and then how he survives a plane crash and time in the Japanese POW camp.  It then continues with his life after the war and how he managed to get back to life as normal. The Bride Wore Blue by Mona Hodgson

This is book three in the Sinclair Sisters Series.  I was looking forward to reading book three and it did not disappoint.   The fourth Sinclair Sister has made it to Cripple Creek and is determined to earn her own way.  On the way to the town, she encounters bandits on the train and through out the book it tells of her other encounters and her dealings with the sheriff that start out over the robbery, but advance with some matchmaking.  "I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review." Inescapable by Nancy Mehl

After reading the cover, I wanted to dive into this book and keep reading.  I was not disappointed.  The book kept me wondering what would happen next and who would be responsible for what was happening.  I had to wonder how it would work out for Lizzie and her daughter Charity.  It was also interesting to see each character's different takes on forgiveness and how the treated Lizzie and her daughter.

The Daughter's Walk by Jane Kirkpatrick

Having just completed Where Lilacs Still Bloom, I was looking forward to reading this book as well.  This story continues after the Estby's journey to NYC to raise money to save the family farm in Washington State.  They traveled  there by walking due to a wager from the fashion industry.  The daughter Clara did not choose to come back and this book tells what may have happened and why she didn't decide to come back and how that decision affected her life. Where Lilacs Still Bloom by Jane Kirkpatrick

This is a fictional rendering of the real life Hulda Klager.  She was a gardener who loved to grow many things including several varieties of lilacs.  She wrote down much of her accomplishments in gardening.  This book chronicles those accomplishments as well as what happened in her personal life with her family and friends.  A good read for those who love growing flowers and are interested in life during that time period. Not this Time by Vicki Hinze

This is the third book in the Crossroads Crisis Center series.  The book has some carry over from the other two books which I had not read, but was still  a good book to read.  It seems that the town of Seagrove village has been hit again by terrorism and the no one knows who to trust.  Vicki Hinze does a good job of keeping you turning the pages to see how things work out and how the characters learn who to trust.
